Frequently asked questions

When and where to get tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)?

You can get tested in Tignes by independent nurses. It's advisable to consult a doctor beforehand to assess the risks and obtain a prescription! Free testing is also available at the CeGIDD (Free Center for Information, Testing, and Diagnosis) in Bourg-Saint-Maurice hospital. This is a supportive space with practitioners trained to answer your questions about STIs. Walk-in consultations are available on Mondays from 5 PM to 7 PM.

I need a certificate for sports practice; am I required to see a doctor?

Yes, the issuance of a medical certificate has legal and medical value and holds the responsibility of the doctor who signs and stamps the certificate. You must undergo a clinical examination and a specific interview so that the doctor can provide you with one. This is usually an opportunity to assess your cardiovascular risk factors, as well as your medical, surgical, personal, and family history, vaccinations, etc. It is possible that during this consultation, the doctor will perform an electrocardiogram.

At what age should one be screened for cervical cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, or prostate cancer?

There are french national recommendations (see below); however, the doctor can adapt these screenings based on your risk factors! Feel free to discuss your concerns with them.

You need a regular following up from a GP?

The practitioners at the Tignes medical center are still accepting new patients.

Do I need a referral letter to see a specialist?

It is possible to see a specialist without a referral from your general practitioner; however in France, more and more specialists require a descriptive letter about your health condition to give you an appointment. On the other hand, french health insurance covers the consultation better if you are referred by a treating physician.
